STRATEGIC MINDSET
STRATEGIC MINDSET
a 7 day plan to identify what matters and create a strategy that works
By THIBAUT MEURISSE
PART 1
Planning Effectively
Efficiency is doing things right while effectiveness is doing the right things.
There is no point doing things right if those things don't move you closer to your goals.
The Power of Long-term thinking
say no to infinite possibilities, removing options
direct all your energy toward achieving your goals.
think strategically for long term goal
The power of compounding : keep making progress toward the goals each day, to build momentum.
Making progress toward the goals each day, you build momentum, you accumulate small wins, which boost your confidence and increase your motivation.
The power of focus:
focus acts like an ax
Bruce Lee:" I fear not the man who has practiced 10.000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10.000 times "
When you pursue two rabbits, you end up catching none
When you work toward your most important goals each day, you activate the power of focus.
Strategic productivity involves hitting a tree in the same spot until it falls down.
focus on only a few goals at the same time;
Implement strategy to reach them;
make progress each day inline with strategy.
Day 1 Planning Our Year
Most people spend more time planning a one-week vacation than they spend planning their life (Michael Hyatt, Author)
BRAINSTORMING:
To plan our year, start by brainstorming using the question: "what would make the next twelve months trully valuable
WRITE & CHOOSE THE ONE THING YOU'D LIKE TO FOCUS ON
which one would make us the proudest;
which make the biggest positive difference in our life;
what's the one thing i have always wanted to do but i have not;
what do we really want in life;
what's the one thing that scares me the most (scare: need to do the most).
Day 2 Make The Dominos Falls
you need to be doing fewer things for more effect instead of doing more things with side effects (Gary Keller, author)
Making the domino falls, with characteristics:
Help us to build momentum & activate the power of compounding;
The right domino called a "Daily habits" : generated momentum, move toward the goal consistently.
They entail a paradigm shift that changes our reality immediately and improves our results
Paradigm is a model of reality based on a set of assumptions or hypotheses. the more accurate paradigm, the more effective action will be, the better results we'll obtain.
The questions to guide us to create a paradigm shift:
What's the fastest way to achieve the goal;
If i were lazy, what would i do to achieve the goal quickly?
What would albert einstein, Bill Gates, or Elon Musk do to achieve the same goal;
What if this goal is not the right one?
Can I reframe my goal, and how?
They allow us to make significant progress toward our goal.
From hundred ways, write to the list, narrow the list to ten ideas, and choose the one big idea.
They dramatically reduce our options, eliminating most of the irrelevant actions.
about what not to do. A good strategy must narrow the options.
exp: amazon strarted by selling books online, google create search engine, apple started with PC
Day 3 Planning Your 90 Days
“The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at time” (Abraham Lincoln)
Instead of setting yearly goals, we must focus of our attention on the next 90 days.
Benefits of settings 90-day goals:
1. They make your goals more tangible
2. They force you to create a more detailed blueprint.
3. They create a sense of urgency.
4. They encourage you to measure your progress more consistently.
Action step:
1) Look at your yearly goal and indentify the milestone you must hit to reach it.
2) Write down the key milestone for each quarter with as much detail as posible.
Day 4 Being Strategic During Your Day
“Be strategic about productivity-do less exceptionally well, instead of doing more in a average way” (Laurie Buchanan, Author)
1) The key is to remind yourself continuously that you must do the right things instead of doing things right.
2) We ussualy know what we need to do, but we often fail to do so,
A-7 Step Method to approach your tasks the correct way:
1) Prioritize your task.
Questions to ensure:
i i could complete only one thing today, which task would have the most impact?
is this task moving me closer to main goal?
Do i really need to do this right now, or can i do it later?
2) Asses the validiity your task.
Questions to ensure;
Do i really need to do this task?
Is right now the best time? what will be happen if i delay it for a week? a month? forever?
am i working on this task as a way to avoid what i really should be doing, or not?
3) Clarify what we need to be done.
what do i need to do here?
What am i trying to accomplish?
What does the finished product look like?
4) Determine whether you should be the person doing it.
is this task worth my time?
can someone else do it better then me?
what will be happen if i simply remove or postpone this task?
5) Find the most effective way to tackle a task
Abraham lincoln" give me 6 hours to chop a tree, an i will spend the first 4 sharpening the ax"
6) Batch the task with other similar tasks.
7) Automate your task.
Framework: CEO plans the day, the COO looks for ways to improve the system, the employee excutes.
Day 5 Asking Yourself Smart Questions
“succesful people ask better questions, an as result, they get better aswers” (Tony Robbins, Coach)
1) How
2) What if
3) Who
Day 6 Applying What You Learn With Maximum Effectiveness
1) Finding the right information and applying it the right way
2) Five learning mistakes most people make:
a) overlearning
b) analysis paralysis : terlalu banyak analisis namun tidak improve progress
c) illusion of competence: banyak kegiatan namun tak improve the progress
d) shiny object syndrome : terlalu banyak hal yang dikerjakan seperti anak kecil mendapat banyak mainan
e) and poor planning skills.
Day 7 Managing your energy well
1) Using peak time effectively
2) Using diffused mode and focused mode effectively
3) Carving out time to think each week
4) Segmenting your day
